After leaving Tokushima Awaodori Airport, the bus will stop at Naruto Station, a hub for sightseeing tours, and the Otsuka Museum of Art, which is popular among tourists. This new airport bus service connects Tokushima and Awaji Island as it crosses over the Onaruto Bridge providing further service to the Awajishima-minami Parking Area near Roadside Station Uzushio and finally, Fukura in Minamiawaji. The bus traveling from Tokushima to Minamiawaji will be wrapped in a collaborative design featuring Awaji Uzusuke, the official mascot of Minamiawaji City, and Sudachi-kun, the mascot character of Tokushima Prefecture.
The UZSBUS (pronounced “oo-zoo bus”) gets its name from the “U” of “uzushio” (which means “whirlpool” in Japanese), the “Z” from Awaji Uzusuke, and the “S” from Sudachi-kun. The design of the bus wrap was based on the concept of “crossing the bridge of dreams” as it connects the two areas framing Japan’s uzushio whirlpools, which are being considered for World Heritage status. It connects passengers from flights arriving from various airports, including Haneda, Fukuoka, and Korea’s Incheon Airport. In Naruto City, shuttle service is available from AoAwo Resort to the various resort hotels in the area, and the bus also connects to the free UZU LOOP shuttle bus service offered within Minamiawaji City, significantly improving access to accommodations within the city. Some buses require reservations. UZUBUS is operated by Tokushima Bus, Awaji Kotsu, and Minato Kanko Bus companies.
